Term 1 Noho Marae

Whoa! It’s week 7 already and the time has flown. Last week (Thursday 6/03/2015) Room 21 had the pleasure of undertaking an awesome noho marae experience onsite at the Clendon Park Wharenui with Room 25, Ma Cynthia’s class.

The noho marae experience was well organised, implemented, monitored and we successfully achieved our goals well beyond out expectations. Indeed the whakatauki “Ehara taku toa, he takitahi, he toa takitini” is an apt description of the wonderful support that our two classes were afforded during the two day programme.

From Whaea Rachael Panui who so kindly cooked an amazing dinner for 45 plus people to Matua Tuiono who unselfishly donated his time and knowledge. Many of the rangatahi gained huge benefit from Matua Tuiono’s wananga about the history of Manurewa and in particular the three maunga that whakapapa to Manurewa and the ancestors who shaped the landscape that we have come to know as Manurewa. Then, there is the tohunga o kapa haka Matua Richard Mai’ava who continuously raises the bar when it comes to inspiring and motivating our young rangatahi. Matua Richard once again took our young rangatahi to another level with his knowledge and wisdom of mau rakau. Nga mihi maioha ki a koe e te rangatira tuturu. Our noho marae had always been on the front foot from the early planning stages. Whaea Oronsay agreed to support our programme and Ma Cynthia had planned everything to perfection, her leadership and charisma paved the way for a very successful noho marae experience. A special mihi goes out to Whaea Joy and her family for providing pivotal support, manaaki and tiaki of our students during our programme.



You Rox Matua Richard!

We had truckloads of support and we would like to acknowledge parents, families and friends for that support. Without that support our noho marae experience would have been very different. We also acknowledge Mrs Sue Dawson (principal), Matua Dudley Adams (deputy principal) and the SMT for their input and support of our programme.

The biggest mihi would have to go to our tamariki who were exemplary on the night. Their attitude, participation and respect for the programme was at another level. Ngā mihi aroha ki a koutou ngā taitamariki ma.

Our programme culminated with a swim in the Clendon Park School's 5 star swimming pool and a shared barbeque lunch. Ka nui te korero!
